A 'wormhole' isn't a tunnel in space, it's a hole in the curvature of space-time. It's zero distance.

It has been postulated that they could be created between two impossibly massive, rotating, cylindrical objects. The theory seems sound and has been incorporated into various Hard SF novels, like Poul Anderson's "Avatar."

... though of course you have to get to the two points, in order to construct those cylinders...
