Yeah, he was the one that wanted to do it. He read the fox news article and knew they wanted to focus on his faith, so he tried to direct the conversation away from the topic that got him the interview in the first place. A scholar writing a book about jesus is hardly interesting. Look at the number of sources he said, they were clearly interested in his faith and he wouldn't have ever ended up on any news channel or seller list without it. He definitely manipulated the situation to get his book noticed more.
