Default Freddy the Fan Dead at 85

Freddy Schuman, aka Freddy 'SEZ', aka Freddy the Fan passed away at the age of 85. I remember him walking around banging that pan and spoon at every game I went to as a kid. Freddy the Fan, you will be missed

It's been a tough year for the Yankees.

They're still in the hunt for a 28th title -- but they lost owner George Steinbrenner and PA announcer Bob Sheppard this season.

Now another notable presence has departed: Freddy Schuman, aka Freddy the Fan, who died Sunday of a heart attack at age 85.

For 22 years, Freddy -- in a team jacket and carrying a "Freddy 'Sez' " sign -- wandered the stadium cheering on the Bombers while banging a shamrock-bedecked frying pan with a spoon.

Retired pans are displayed at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and the Yogi Berra Museum -- and Freddy himself grew so famous that he was featured in a MasterCard commercial.

Fred "Freddy Sez" Schuman New York baseball has long had colorful fans -- from the old Dodgers Sym-phony and cowbell-clanger Hilda Chester at Ebbets Field, to Karl Ehrhardt, the Sign Man of Shea Stadium.

Add Freddy Schuman to the list.

RIP.
