Ha been there, done that! Back in '97, I had a tail bag on my '97 YZF1000 and it slipped off and into my rear tire with my camcorder in it! The maker of the bag covered all of my repairs and my camcorder! This is the first one I've bought since! I'm thinking about strapping it to my seat cowl somehow. In fact, I have a couple old ones that I've considered bolting the pack to.
