As far as "work ethic" goes, white people have consistently employed/forced/coerced minorities to do the hard work in this country. You're reading entirely too much into it. He passed away quite a few years ago, or I'd ask him. I don't ever remember seeing a black person in that part of the world until I was an adult. Hell, when I moved away from there as a 12-year-old I was a bit shocked to learn that not every person was white and catholic...

Oh well, the word refers to black people. You obviously can use it any way you want but that doesn't change the meaning. It's like the bitch thread, sure you can use the word bitch to describe anyone or anything you wish but it doesn't change the root meaning. Besides, I'm just fucking with you. Lots of older white people are bigotted, most of the time for no real reason. Like you said, they've barely even seen a black person, much less have any real reason to hate them. It doesn't stop them though.

Does anyone honestly believe that the word "nigger" is not predominantly used to describe black people regardless of whom is using it, context or to what purpose? What would you expect a dictionary to say?

Huh? Nah, I have this same type of argument with full blooded blacks as well! As my friends know, I've been on the receiving end of some serious discrimination from black people as well. I like having fun with white people on this subject because most aren't openly prejudice. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the word nigger come out of a white guys mouth because they don't realize that I'm part black.
