stupid question but when you dial 911 the old cell phones would use any available tower in the area regardless of whose tower it was att ver, sprint. with all these changes do they still do that?

The US cell phone system sucks. Over in Europe, all cells work with all carrier towers. Not only that, but the user is only charged if they are making a call, so if you never make a call all you ever pay is the service fee, all incoming calls are free. course thats how it was when i was over there in 97-00. Things may have changed since then.......
I just hate how these companies say this about the other and how they are so much better then this guy and that guys service sucks, blah, blah, blah........ Just make a damn service that doesn't drop calls doesn't have dead spots and will always make a call period regardless of what tower your on without stupid roaming charges and what not.

Ya know, I hear alot about dropped calls with the Iphone but in the 2 years I've owned one, I cant think of a single time mine has done that. Other than the occasional freeze its never given me an issue.

It's more an issue in large cities like New York and San Fran where the network is overloaded with iphones. |

Yeah, I had the same experience (even in San Francisco on visits) until I came to the Portland area this week. I don't know what the hell is up with the network in this area, but with full AT&T bars earlier in the week I was getting dropped about every 2 minutes. Today seems better, but we'll see.
