Default cellphone hotspot + desktop

Still waiting on a company to get to the town I live in for service so I thought about activating verizon hotspot on my htc rezound. How would I go to get my desktop to connect? I have a Dlink DIR-655 router. Will that work or does that just send out wifi and not recieve?

Since turning on 4G, I can get up to 10mb/5mb speeds.

Do you only want your desktop to connect? USB tethering would probably be the easiest route. You could also put a wireless NIC in your desktop.

If you wanted to go through the router I found this link on google.

Apparently there are some pretty cheap routers/repeaters out there that can do this if yours can't. You can also USB tether to routers apparently.

Download the PDANet App (not available on AT&T's Google Play network, not sure about Verizon). Worst case scenario, you just download it via your PC and copy it to your phone. Then all you need is a USB cable to connect your phone to your PC and you're browsing the web.

Note: PDANet is only necessary if Verizon doesn't allow or charges for tethering, and you want to get around it.

Ok. I activated verizons tethering and it works, but then the connection just quits after a couple of minutes. As soon as I pull the usb cord the connection is fine on my phone. Hotspot seems to work fine.

Try using Foxfi - its an app you can download for your android - won't cost you anything either. Makes ur phone into a wifi access point.

Wifi works fine. I need wired tethering to work.

PDANet works and you don't have to pay that redic fee to the cell company.

What company still charges for tethering? I thought that went away with all these new 10-devices-on-one-plan plans?

Isn't that shit ridiculous?

First you pay for data, then you pay for text messages (redundant charge), and finally if you want to use the data you've already paid for to browse on a PC... well, that's going to cost you even more.

That's an even bigger rip off than the "undercoating" they used to offer on new cars back in the day.

I pay for Sprint's shitty "unlimited" data and I'm damn sure gonna use it.
