ANY CB650-750, I'm not too keen on the 80's kawis, those years were some poor engineering on their part.

He has already had one of those.

I would second the bandit/SV, but also add the Honda CB1100 if you can find one.

Are you looking for old and simple, or just a cheap all around great bike. If that is your criteria, then look at the VTR1000 and ZRX1100
