Dollars to donuts the shop manual is just going to say "Remove front driveshaft"

Sorry man... never had to do that on my K20. Actually I didn't even think it had a divorced transfer case... been a long time. If you've got the clearance, you might have better luck if you re-attach the center support to the frame, maybe pull the front shaft with a slide hammer?

this should be standard practice no matter what. relying on an emergency brake to keep your vehicle in place is poor practice IMO, and asking to get you hurt. as is not chocking the wheels when removing a driveshaft.

the IDEAL way to do this safely is to have a lift, but not everyone has a $10k automotive lift in their garages.

IT NEEDS TO BE PRESSED OFF...THIS IS FOR A 2000 MODEL, SINCE GM Electronic Service Info only goes back to 1996.



Center Bearing Replacement



Removal Procedure




Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
Remove the front or intermediate propeller shaft.
Remove the center bearing.
• Stand the propeller shaft on end in press with the center bearing supported by press bars.

• Press the propeller shaft down and off the center bearing.

Installation Procedure




Install the center bearing onto the propeller shaft by pressing the center bearing onto the shaft using a press.
Install the front or intermediate propeller shaft.
Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Important: The center bearing must be aligned in order to prevent damage to the propeller shaft assembly. When bolting the center bearing in place, be sure to keep it perpendicular (90 degrees plus or minus 1 degree) to the propeller shaft.

Install the center bearing.
Tighten
Tighten the center bearing nuts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
