I do like the way you have LauncherPro setup. How did you get the launcher icons to look like that?
the dock background? or the icons themselves?

You can back up text messages with a market app called "SMS Backup & Restore".
File is in the UPDATE.ZIP format.
Clockworkmod
Place the file you downloaded anywhere on the SD Card. Easiest place would be the root directory.
Chose "Install zip from sdcard" from the main menu
Select "Chose zip from sdcard"
Browse to the file (SG9-update.zip) and select it. Confirm the install, let it do it's magic.
Reboot.
SPRecovery
Rename the file you downloaded to update.zip and place it in the root of the SD Card.
Select Install from the main menu
Select Allow update.zip Installation
Select Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)
Reboot.
If you are running the most recent version of my ROM, you may not need to wipe data/cache (factory reset). It's never a bad idea though. If you bootloop, that is the reason.
Here's a few quick screenshots:

Honestly I couldn't accurately answer that since I don't have a droid. I did see that CyanogenMod makes a "nightly" rom for your phone which is what I run on mine. It might not be as good on yours though. Try posting on HowardForums.com in the Verizon section or http://forum.xda-developers.com/ .

Yeah, my friend told me about that. 1500ish quads I think too. That kernel I'm using is literally days old and being contructed from a GSM one by a guy that's new to making them so I'm hoping that I'll see a little more performance in the finished product. I saw that G2s can be safely clocked to 1.4+Ghz and are getting 2500+ quad scores. On the plus side for us is they're on T-Mobile, lol.

I loaded up Gingerbread on my Nexus One Friday, and so far I really like it. They changed the look/color of the items on the status bar. The copy/paste is improved as well.
They also improved the functionality of making calls from the call log which was one of my biggest complaints.
It also has a pretty cool animation now for when you hit the power button to turn off the screen. It's like a television turning off where the image compresses vertically to a white line in the middle of the screen and then disappears.
I'm done with charity. Running chevyno1's simply stunning 5.2

Yep. Same here. I loved the Android OS, but the last update to Gingerbread just made my phone practically unusable. I was very displeased with it.
I went back to an iPhone 4, and whaddya know, the best parts of Android that I really liked were included in the iOs5 update. This pleases me.
I don't have the aversion to Apple that alot of people do. I want what works.

Wimax is faster than AT&Ts "Faux G" AT&T has just started using LTE and it is pretty much nowhere, it lobbied itself into being included into the 4G category with HSPA+. That is really more like 3.5G, not a true 4G.

As with anything, it all depends on what you are trying to do. I make phone calls, text, check email, watch netflix, take pictures and a do a small amount of net surfing. For me it works great and in this area 4G is pretty common.

I get a nice Verizon discount through work as well. My bill is relatively cheap. If I didn't have the discount, I'd be paying about $100 a month and I'd probably be looking elsewhere come renewal. As it stands, the discount takes a nice big chunk out of the cost and the coverage has been better than AT&T and Sprint in this area. I can deal with 3G for now. I'm on wifi quite a bit, but I wouldn't mind having LTE. They flipped the switch on it here months ago. I'd like to see a little speed boost.

I had a Droid X that I really loved. It was an excellent phone with a nice big screen, a decent camera, and dead solid reliable.
Then Gingerbread came out. My phone was completely unusable. Half the time, I couldn't make phone calls. The camera worked maybe a quarter of the time, if I was lucky. When I opened the camera, though, it completely shut down my 3G until I rebooted the phone. The browser was 100% nonfunctional. Sending an MMS would completely lock up my phone. I could send and receive emails (if I didn't try to use the camera) and SMS. The option I got first from Verizon was to pound sand. A second call got me the option to swap out to a refurb, or pound sand. From reading all the problems people were having with the Gingerbread update in general on the Droid X, it wasn't an option I was willing to take. I've played that game when I had the Blackberry Storm and Blackberry Tour swapped out endless times. I refuse to play phone roulette hoping to get one that does what it's supposed to do. So I got rid of the Droid X and bailed on android for now. I'll keep an eye on them as ICS rolls out and see how it goes.

Minus netflix thats all I do. Mine reboots whenever the hell it feels like it. Freezes up. And generally acts shitty. Also the battery life is a joke. Total bullshit. Not to mention Sprints coverage is heinous. I don't care about 4G...I can get it here but I dont use it b/c it's just another drain on the crap battery.

I root and mine is stable as shit.
LTE here is about 30 mbps as opposed to 3G which is 2...

This will most likely be my last android phone.
Holy shit. My browser started freaking out on me this past Saturday. I thought it was just my phone. I found a way around it with the Google search bar. This is my only major problem since introduction day. Going to Verizon tomorrow. Good to know its not just me though...

I "upgraded" to the HTC Inspire a couple months ago after I cracked the screen on my Nexus One. It seems to work fine, except every so often it dumps all the photos in my gallery. Good thing I have it set to upload to a private gallery in Google + or all those photos would be lost forever - not that they were amazing photos or anything, but some stuff (like photos of my kids) I just like to have.

I charge at home with my computers USB port, I have a car charger which mostly gets used on long drives and late nights whne my battery is getting low, and I have wall charger that I bring to work with me and that gets used when Im working offshore all day. Not having a signal seems to kill the battery faster, I guess its contantly searching.

Only downside is LTE+Non-removable battery might wind up being a pain in the ass. They're touting big numbers for the battery life, but we'll see.

If you don't mind me asking, why the RAZR over the Galaxy Nexus?
There are really only a couple differences between the two
- 8MP on the RAZR vs 5MP on the Nexus (though it really doesn't matter)
- Gingerbread on the RAZE vs ICS on the Nexus (Razr will get ICS shortly I suspect)
- Blur vs Core android.
- Slightly larger screen on the Nexus
- douchebag on the RAZR *edit* lol on the auto edit to douchebag from g0rilla g|ass.
For me personally, I prefer the build quality of the Motorolas over the Samsungs. And I know it's weird, but I actually like the versions of Blur that are out in the DroidX + phones. They're both great phones, and to me it just comes down to a preference for Motorola.
Where are photos of it with its lid open? Seems like it's too thin to be a durable flip-phone.
I haven't seen any teardowns of it yet. The form factor is super thin @ 7.1MM so that is a small worry, but with the strength of the chassis and the motorola build quality I'm not very concerned.
*Edit* I need to break my habit of only skimming homeslice's posts :P It's a slab, and while it's very thin so there is a small durability worry, motorola phones are strong as hell.

Agreed - anything over 4-5MP on a cameraphone is a waste. The optics just aren't there to really support really high res pictures.
Are these stories in the last couple of years? The last couple years of motorola phones have been fantastic. The samsungs always felt a little flimsy to me which is why I prefer the motorola.

I had no problem with the hardware on my Droid X. It was a solid piece of phone that was damn near indestructable. I've dropped that thing a bunch of times, and besides the batter door popping off, it kept running without problem. All of my problems came after the software update. They just don't have it down. I had a few problems with the original Droid going from Eclair to Froyo that were eventually sorted, but going from Froyo to Gingerbread on the Droid X made the phone completely unusable. The RAZR looks really nice, and I have faith in the hardware, but the idea of sweating through the upgrade from Gingerbread to ICS two or three months into ownership and hoping that the phone isn't turned to shit because of issues with Blur will guarantee that I don't fuck with the RAZR, or any skinned version of Android for that matter. The Galaxy Nexus with a clean, unskinned, vanilla version of ICS is far more appealing and presents far less bullshit to deal with related to software updates.

That's the odd thing - I heard about folks having issues w/ the upgrade to Gingerbread but I had zero issues, both hardware and software.

I had issues with every upgrade so far, each time I needed to wipe the phone each time and start fresh. That pisses some people off but I like starting with a fresh OS every once n a while.. Keeps it as fast as possible.

The upgrade from iOS 4.x to iOS 5 wasn't smooth. My pictures got wiped (not a huge deal), even though they were backed up. The servers were so fucked that it took about two hours and change to download the upgrade. When it was upgraded, the same fucked up servers wouldn't authenticate my phone and cancelled the installation. It took a few hours to get things to actually work.

For example my parents could never talk on their cell phones in their house, they complained like crazy to spint (they get discount through work otherwise would of switched) finally they gave em one of those in home cell towers that goes through your internet about 2 yrs ago and it still has issues but mostly allows them to use it in their house.

Truth. You get what you pay for. I happily pay the minimal premium for Verizon coverage and service. Been with Verizon for about the last 14 years (from back when they were Airtouch Cellular) with a very short stint w/ AT&T. 1 month of AT&T and I happily paid the cancellation fees to go back to Verizon - AT&T sucked that hard.

They're only there to make up for the discount on the hardware. You get a $99 phone that cost them around $400, they want to make sure you stick around so they can make up that sunk cost in monthly service fees.

Then why aren't the plans cheaper if you buy a phone that's not unsubsidized? If I bought an unsubsidized phone through Verizon, the cost of my plan wouldn't be lowered. I think T-Mobile was the only one who had plans that reflected whether you got a discounted phone or not, and they may have dropped that too.

You guys sure about that? Looking online, I could choose between my existing Unlimited 3g plan, and the other 3 data capped plans were labeled LTE. If that's actually the case, then that's badass considering the existing unlimited plan is less than the 2GB capped plan.

Mine doesn't say anything about 3G or LTE when I try to upgrade, but shows all the 4 plans. It says if you go to the capped plans, you can't change back.

Odd - I have an X and have loved it - no issues. It's been bulletproof.
I had mine since launch morning. Had no problems until 2 weeks ago. The problems are bad enough that Verizon is sending me a new phone now.
Mine's done that a few times with the camera. Now my vid recorder freezes up and if it is able to record the vid file is corrupt even fully stopping.
Ok, so I went to the OSU/Wisconsin game last night. Took a few pictures and videos here and there. When it came down to the final few minutes and I despirately wanted to get some good pictures and video, the phone decided to take a giant shit on me. When I would try to pull up the camera, half of the time the camera would fail to initalize, the other half it would load and then freeze. Occationally I could get the video camera to load and I got a few videos taken. Eventually it got bad enough that even the video camera would just go black once I hit record. I got home this morning and decided to look at all the pictures and videos I did get to take. About 95% of the files were corrupt. I was really about ready to throw the fucking thing off the third deck at the 'Shoe and watch it shatter into a million pieces.
I am almost ready to flash the phone back to Froyo and then root it again. I was happier when it was rooted anyway.

Motorola can suck my dick.
If course I see android like I see linux. Very cool, easy to use, and lots of variety BUT there s lack of hardware support aka drivers. I wouldnt doubt it if some of these smart phones are having problems because the hardware and software arent getting along.
A lot of the issues I see is the stupid front ends they put on them. If they used a vanilla rom and told Verizon/AT&T/Sprint to suck their ass with bloatware, the phones would be a lot better. That's what Apple does. They tell the phone companies to go fuck themselves when it comes to updates and bloatware and they don't have these silly front end software that motorola/HTC/Samsung add on top of Android.

Windows 7.5 doesn't bother me. I rather like it, from the brief time I've played around with it. My problem with the Windows phones is still the app selection. It's gotten better since last I looked, but I'd have to really look to see if there are things that I would like to have or some equivalent available. I didn't know about the resolution thing. I think I'd have to see it in person though and see how the programs are using the available resolution. It's almost a non-issue. The only Windows phone on Verizon is still the ok Trophy, and I'm not wasting an upgrade on that.

Took a look at the Verizon selection of phones. What a disappointment. Aside from the fact that all the Verizon phones were non-functional dummy units, not a single one stood out as a must have. I couldn't give a shit about the Galaxy Nexus if I tried. The RAZR Maxx looks like shit, and whatever the hell that Samsung is with the slide out keyboard, I'll pass. Samsung in general is a complete pass. The shit UI they put on it is a deal killer.
I peeked at the AT&T selection as well. They had 6 Galaxy Notes all hooked up and running. That is a big motherfucking phone/tablet/thing. I almost really like it. The HTC One X is a really nice looking phone. It was also a dummy unit, but the look and physical feel of the phone was very nice. The specs are nice too. If it were on Verizon, I'd have probably walked out with a new phone. Unfortunately, Verizon has stated that they're not getting the HTC One series of phones, instead opting for another shitty iteration of the Incredible. Fuck that. The other surprise was a fully functioning Lumia 900. That's a damn sharp phone. Really nice, solid construction, super quick and ultra smooth UI, and just really well done. I think, after playing around with it for a while, I could easily live with one of the newer Windows phones. They've done a damn fine job of making it solid phone. I would have loved to have compared it to ICS on the Galaxy Nexus to see how they match up, but against Gingerbread, I'd much rather have the Windows Phone 7.5 operating system.
Again, though, not available on Verizon. They're dick and balls deep in their own branded Android shit that's starting to get dull and tedious. So, as of now, I'm staying with the iPhone 4.

I didn't try out any forums, but I did try the browser. It seems to be quite competent on the stuff I would normally go to. I don't generally go to any forums on my phone, so I can't comment on how it would handle them. Otherwise, I was really impressed with both the Lumia and WP7.5. It's gotten a good deal of polish in the last year or so. I still don't get why there's still a slight stutter on screen transitions and some scrolling on Android phones. It stands out far more to me now after using the iPhone and seeing Windows handle the same thing without any lag. There's gotta be something in the actual coding, because the phones definitely have the hardware to keep things smooth.

Here is the review I was talking about.........The browsing complaint was due to the screen's low resolution, which they say makes small font hard to read.
Then they go on to say that its screen is the "most beautiful".......I'm not sure how those two statements co-exist :?:

I'll try and get another hands on with it some time this week and check it out. I don't really recall any of the fonts being difficult to read, but it wasn't something I was focusing my attention as much as the general use of the browser and the UI elements. It has a gorgeous screen on it from what I've seen, and the transitions from the home screen to apps and even between different parts of the application are incredibly smooth. The design on some of the apps like the native mail client were really nice, though I've been partial to the Zune type font they've been using, far more than Helvetica and Arial.
Amazon currently has the Galaxy Nexus for a penny. That makes it a little more interesting, but I can't help but feel that it's about a month or two away from feeling annoyingly dated.

It just about bricked my phone. It spent a day and a half trying to update and killed my battery after 4 or 5 hours. I could not figure out how to stop it, and if I reset the phone it would just start downloading again. When I finally figured out how to stop it from downloading, my google play would not open, facebook, keyboard, chrome, dolphin and a handful other programs all stopped. The phone was able to receive incoming calls and send text typed by voice but nothing else.
I had to do a factory reset, and now all is good again.

I just got a used Galaxy Note 2 from eBay and Ive only had it about half a day but its pretty awesome so far. Way faster and smoother than my Droid Bionic and a ton more features even after the JB update. Im in the same boat. I cant get a discounted upgrade from Verizon so I bought a used one from a third party. You have to pay full price but Verizon recently announced that they will be letting people buy a device for the retail price and adding the price to your monthly bill like a payment plan which is another option.

Its no different than if you had a defective phone and Verizon sent you a replacement, you swap your SIM card to the new one and then activate the phones ID number and nothing changed on your plan. Im my case my old Bionic has the normal sized SIM card and the Note 2 used the micro SIM card so I had to go to the Verizon store and ask them for a new SIM. They gave me the new SIM and activated the phone for free. You can call them and have the new card mailed to you.

Since they added google now and google maps, it's a lot better. The phone is very reliable. I can't remember the last time I had to do a reboot, it's been months. It was almost a daily thing with my gnex. I am still on iOS6.1.2, so I am jailbroken which really makes a difference. It's much better than a unjailbroken iphone, you can get a lot of the things you enjoy on Android that way. Battery is a tie... It's been a push for me really though because I definitely miss the much larger screen of the gnex. I do enjoy the airplay setup I have home wide now though with my airport expresses controlling speakers throughout the house and the apple TVs I have on the main TVs that I can control with my phone/wifes phone/ipad.
