View Full Version : Got My Heart's "Desire"... Another Android Thread.

Well, I finally got the Desire from US Cellular. It is very similar to the Nexus One other than a bit more memory, HTC sense, 720p video AND THE CARRIER ACTUALLY HAS TOWERS IN THIS AREA!!!! Another cool feature is USC navigation app that is run by TeleNav and works BETTER in a lot of ways than Google. Of course, it is lacking Google's cool features like a pic of the location when you get there, programmable poi's, etc but it is a lot smoother.

BTW I'm selling my N1 here if anyone is interested,

I've been waiting for USC to get a decent phone for some time as their coverage is the best in this area by far!

T Mobile's crap coverage was costing me money in missed jobs... Besides, USC has a 30 day trade policy so if the Galaxy comes out before then, I may change. We'll see.

You won't make it. It comes out in October so you will go over 30 days, normally you are on top of this stuff. This surprises me.

Yea I know about the supposed date AND I know about their supposed 30 policy... What they don't know is that I have literally hours to spend on hold in between jobs... I already got them to waive the activation fee. Besides, I really liked my N1, I just couldn't deal with the coverage anymore, I lost almost $1,000 last month from missed calls. I hated the Acclaim but I really like the Desire, it's the N1 plus Sense and a few other goodies so no loss. Even if I have to "slum" it with this phone a few months, I think that I'll make it somehow... BTW I'm not sold on the galaxy phones anyway...and I'm not sure which variant USC will be carrying. I don't want a keyboard, I do want a flash and I'd like to have the front facing camera or I'd stick with HTC, they've been good to me so far.:idk:

I got a Desire too. My friend has a Captivate (AT&T Galaxy S) and there's really no advantage with it. It has a nicer display, but mine takes better pictures and has a built in LED light (flash). You don't really see the difference in the display size, and the quality looks almost identical. Not to mention I got a BOGO on the Desire, doubt it'd be possible with the Galaxy S model, assuming I'd even want it. Plus the Desire's display allegedly uses 1/5th less battery than the Galaxy S's S-AMOLED.

True dat! Yea, I've been amazed at my battery life as well. Then there's the HTC Sense vs Samsung TouchWhiz...:idk: I liked my N1 so this is an easy transition.

What do you have now?

I am slapping out 35's easy with a lite stock rom, no overclocking.

Custom roms, can get rid of bloatware (huge for me, I hate most of the crap that comes stock), generally fuck around with more stuff on the phone, overclock. Just be a geek. If you want a phone to "just work." It's not for you.

It's not for everyone, you have the potential of bricking your phone.

Mr Lefty
09-01-2010, 02:30 PM
the nice thing for me with rooting is I can control what I want/don't want. the ability to overclock or UNDERclock is important too... the battery on the Droid sucks... but being able to underclock the CPU to 125mhz when the screen is off... lets my battery last up to 4 days (if I don't ever use it) or an entire day with normal use. with out doing that... I can barely make it to lunch before the battery is dead.

Set CPU is probably the #1 reason I rooted.

It's not for everyone, you have the potential of bricking your phone.

not with easy root... it's $3 and it's a one click root.

The radio issue is the big thing with the incredible. It's much easier to just go unrevoked so you can get S-OFF.

Mr Lefty
09-01-2010, 03:27 PM
what is S-OFF?

I've thought about going to the incredible if my droid drinks too much again (with the claims on the Storm and my first Droid I've been dropped from insurance) thought about the X though...

It turns off a major security check on the device. It lets you flash to any radio you want very easily and breaks the root of the new stock froyo rom.

At this point, I would wait for the next gen of HTC devices. The droid X isn't worth it from what I hear. A lot of unhappy users going to droid 2 or incredibles.

What complaints do you hear about the Droid X? You seem to be well informed on smartphones....I'm curious as I've got a Droid X....bone stock out of the box...no cracking it or anything and I LOVE it...don't have a single complaint with or about it.

I'm not a power user by any estimation and am wondering what complaints more educated users have about the device.

It's not what people expected, size being a problem, this is from power users like Tigger who trade phones on a whim. They just enjoyed another phone more than this one and went back to something more like that.

The average users that I know with it seem happy.

Frg22d? Supposedly it breaks your root and you have to do it over via sprecovery

This is what I'm running now, looks great. Stable too

I actually had the Incredible on order before changing my mind. I cancelled the Incredible order and bought the Droid X when it came out. And to be honest, the size differential was a plus in my decision....I LOVE the huge screen.

My only complaint with an Android based phone to this point has been the shoddy marketplace. It's difficult to sort through the crap to find "good" apps.

The snap on with the kick stand? I like it actually except it sticks out some. I have like ten cases, my favorite is a leather case I got on Ebay for $10. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to use the BG case with my car kit... Which may be a deal breaker for the BG case...

I have to tell you, the BG case looks like it'll be some sort of protection for the phone if dropped. The main downside for me is the case won't work with either my car or bike mounts... well, it works on the bike upside down.

My issue with it is the size thing. It's made the phone much larger. I want one like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/GRAY-Soft-Crystal-gel-Case-Skin-HTC-Desire-Bravo-G7-/270630954407?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f02dca5a7 but in black.

My friend has this one for his captivate. It's ideal, but they don't seem to make one like this for my phone. http://cgi.ebay.com/AT-T-Body-Glove-Mirage-Soft-Gel-Case-Samsung-Captivate-/280556658861?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item41527ae0ad
