True! Suches is in dry county...does that mean there's no liquid courage sold anywhere? Even though I live in a backward state in the middle of the bible belt, we don't have dry areas... :idk:

I won't have any room for alcohol, however, I'll be more than happy to give someone money to pick some up on the way!

I'm putting in a request for Yuengling. :D Tommy, is there a good beer that you can bring me a can or two to try? We don't have alot of brands here I hear you & some others from up your way talk about.

I have 8 yuenglings in the fridge now so I can bring a few. i tend to drink the darker heavier beers so you may wanna be careful there ;) I will have to see how much space I have I am sure I can bring a few bottles but that wont last very long.

How does a dry county work? Maybe after a few of us get there, we can unpack our bags & head out to another county for beer? I don't think Eric lives too far from Suches...maybe he can take orders & money & get it with his truck. TWO may let him roll up in it long enough to drop it off. :idk:

Statesboro, GA is the dry county I went to college in. Bars could serve beer and sell liquor shots, but couldn't sell you a bottle of liquor. All the package stores were the same, plenty of beer but no liquor.

Pretty sure you should be able to buy beer but remember folks, not on Sundays. :D

I think that beer is the easy solution. Although I am very sure that I can carry a 32 pack on top of my luggage, we can alway pick it up on the way. hard liquor, we can work on that too.

Quick281

If you want hard liquor I am sure there is a store right on one of the country lines. Statesboro had 3 main road that went out of Bulloch county and all three had stores called "the line". Full of liquor for all of us underaged college kids. :rockwoot:

Loved those days.

Not sure if you want to take too much beer, bouncing around on a 12 hr trip cant be too good for it. I can proll yput a few bottles in the hard bags and will figure something out for the back seat.

Instead of bringing it all the way from home, why not just stop by a store closer to Suches? That' what I would do but I don't have enough luggage & I'm not about to pile it any higher than neecessary. That just doesnn't work well for me.

Yeh ummm, ya think?

we all went out to dinner the last night... cept one of us, Steve... who was too drunk... decided he didn't want a good steak so he and another went to taco bell and back to the hotel.

Steve gets drunk and somehow convinces the hotel manager that he can't walk and has her pushing him around the hotel in a wheelchair... fast forward to us coming home... he's try'n to wheel himself down stairs... playing chicken in said wheel chair... and trying to surf on the baggage cart while people pushed it running down the hall...

and that was just the last night... he "didn't drink that much cause, I have to ride back home tomorrow" he left a little later than he planned... but rode 8 or so hrs home.

I'm sure it's gonna be quite interesting and entertaining nights...

Union County, Georgia is a dry county. This is the county that contains Blairsville, and a good part of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The Chattahoochee National Forest covers 18 north Georgia counties, the largest area of which is located in Rabun County. Union county houses almost 89,000 acres of the national forest. The National Forest is patroled by Park Rangers and State Police. The Union County Sheriff, located in Blairsville, has 20 deputies assigned to Patrol and they drive late model Ford Crown Victoria cruisers. Here's a pic of one of their deputies and the cruiser for markings. http://flickr.com/photos/40726390@N00/601185909/

I'm still looking for crap I need for my bike, mainly maintainence, then gear, then extras for the trip. My list is growing daily. :(

I still need to:
bleed brakes
change/replace fluids
battery
spark plugs
air filter
looking at finding someone to help me do the valve check
put tires on when it gets warmer
I'll check my chain and sprockets again in April

I need:
new helmet - a MUST!
gloves
Looking for a deal on:
mesh jacket
boots

For trip:
Luggage. I still haven't decided on what I want and I need to get in touch with Eric about a magnetic tank bag he's got that's perfect for me. It's a small one because if I get anything any bigger, I won't be able to reach the bars.

Anyway, I've gotten in touch with the hotel in Blairsville directly, I should have a group rate at the end of the week. If I'd known it was going to be this much of a pain I'd have started...well, I started in November, so I guess I'd have done what I did.

Rogue, Ebbs, I'll be riding with you guys, I'm taking the weeks on both sides of the rally weekend off, so hopefully I can ride the Gap too.Anybody else that wants to ride up from the Gulf Coast can get in touch with me and we can work out a meet, depending on how far and AOA we can meet in northern MS, anybody riding in from Texas or the like that would like to stop in Biloxi and ride out with me let me know, I'll get you a room here either on base for $25 or locally for around $50.

Can't wait to see you all and meet some people. None of you are actually real, so it'll be cool for you to become real.

And Rogue, I can't wait to hang out with you. I love short women, you make me feel like a superhero.

You ever meet anyone from a forum like this? Its hella fun!! First time I met the original crew, none of us wanted to leave!! We gots great people, nuff said.

If I go, I was planning on meeting up with Ebbs, somewhere most likely on 65 i think it was...

I am. :D

I'm probably driving if I go, the GSXR has Power Races on it and I don't want to run them flat on the highway and the KTM can only get about 60-80 miles per fill-up. If I drive it'll be across I-10 and up 75, so I'm not really going to go past anyone on the way, so I'll probably be going solo.

Rogue - Don't know if you've heard from TWO yet but don't worry, it's owned by husband and wife (last I heard) and my guess is if you haven't heard it's because they're not there. There are only a few rooms in the lodge, everything else is fcfs camping space (my personal fave). This is where I'll stay if I can manage some time off!

Amorok
02-12-2009, 09:28 AM
Still waiting on the hotel to call me this morning, I'll hit them at lunch if I haven't heard by then. As for the trip up, a few thoughts.

I can ride to Atlanta in a day. I usually do between 75 and 85, but I go slow enough to be safe so I'm pretty easy to follow and I'll ride out by about 0700. If we needed to stop in Atlanta (don't know why) I can get a military room on Dobbins or Robbins, between me ebbs and whoever else we should be able to bunk up cheap. But I plan on leaving at 0700 and riding straight through on the Wednesday or Thursday prior, my plans will revolve around the group riding I guess.

Rogue, I am a pizza delivery guy. I have an obscene amount of $1 bills on my person at all times. Be prepared.

I can carry a decent amount of Yuengling or Dead Guy Ale on my bike, I have a luggage rack and semi-hard bags. I'll bring a six-pack of each for taste testing upon request, but more than that we'll have to find there. And I'll drink the Dead Guy, it and Corona are about the only beers I drink regularly.

I met people from a gun forum I was on years ago and it was awesome, so I'm looking forward to it. The reason I started the Suches Rally was that I tried to make the CF rally last August in Oxford PA. I actually made it to the KY/OH/WV border and got recalled by my base for Hurricane Gustave (stupid UCC.) I'm looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can, like I said, none of you are real yet, so this will be nice.

I just want do do something fun, go somewhere, break away from the stress here at home. The Mothers day date kills anything but a dash to Biloxi and back. Maybe I will host my own TWFix Dirty South ride in the Ozarks:idk:

The Bikes and Blues thing here in Fay is cool but way to "touristy" with gouging motels and big crowds. They say it was only beaten by Daytona and Sturgis last year:idk: Much more fun to the only bikes in the mountains.

I really do want to meet you all in person as I feel like I know you and are good friends already. All the TWFers are interesting and entertaining. Guess so, never rode on one, and I didn't know if it was an actual motoGP deal or just time trials. I guess I'll drag floorboards.

Bad news about the hotel gang. I just got off the phone with them and the lady told me $95.10 is the group rate based on requiring 15 rooms. They are double occupancy rooms so that might help. Bear in mind I have no idea if this is a good rate or not, mine will be $50 so I'm not sure what room rates actually are in hotels. I'm calling her back on Mondy to see if I can sweet talk her down a few bucks. This is for the Holiday Inn in Blairsville, which is the one suggested to me in the original threads. If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions let me have them, I'm checking this thread every day now.

You know, I didn't think to ask if it's per night, I guess I should have. Why do you care? Your room will be $50 just like mine.

Because he's CHEAP!!! I must admit though,$100 per night in a Holiday Inn seems a bit steep...

Hey I hit Orbitz real quick and got the HI for $75 and the Best Western for $69 although I bet that's before taxes...

Here's from BW's website... http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/selectHotel.do

Oh I'm sure that we could make some "arrangements" regarding your hotel costs....

rogue
02-16-2009, 11:13 PM
It's not just hotel costs, but food (although I eat like a bird) and gas expenses. Not to mention lost wages from taking those days off. I had my vacation time in at the old job so I didn't have that to worry about.

Depending upon how quickly I find a job or two will depend if I get to go. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll still be able to go. :dthumb:

Amorok

Rogue, if you want to come I can promise to chip in and help you out, at least with trip expenses, and I'm sure others will too. It's no different than when Rez and wife came last August, we want you there.

Ebbs, yes, you will get a $50 room with your military ID, all Holiday Inns have it and I've stayed in a few. I'll make sure when I call them this morning, but I'm sure they do.

As for accomodations, I'm going to try to get us a better group rate, I'm really dissappointed that they couldn't do any better than that. I mean, how much does a room cost normally? I was hoping for everyone to stay close to each other, I guess we'll all just have to use cell phones to plan stuff. I'm not averse to people crashing out in my room if you get too drunk to go anywhere, the post-party transportation is my main concern about people staying in different places.

And I'm not camping out this year. I've done my share of sleeping in tents and am quite fond of a hotel and a shower I don't have to walk more than a few feet to take. I just don't want to sleep on the ground anymore, maybe after my deployments have a few more years to fade in memory, we'll see.

ericr
02-17-2009, 11:50 AM
AMorok, I hear ya about sleeping on the ground, though I've not done it a lot, I'm just not fond of it cause I usually wake up stiff and then I do need a hot shower to loosen things up.

$32 a night at a hotel isn't bad at all, I'm all up for that. Blueridge is a nice town too, lots of resturants and convieniences (walmart, advance auto parts etc. kinda stuff). I'd say go for the first one if TWO doesn't get back to us soon enough or if the lodge is booked already :idk:

Negative, you are coming to the goddamn rally. Make your kids get jobs, move in with one of us, or take a couple hundred from me. Call it a loan, or payment for the option, whatever you want, but you're coming, and that's final. If any prospective employers have a problem with it, call my cell and then hand it to them, I'll smooth things over and get you hired at a better wage.

Typically as long as you are up front and clear that at such n such time you will be out of town on a pre employment planned trip, employers dont blink an eye. Ive done it several times over the years, for family events, twf rally etc. Make sure they acknowledge it in writing tho...
