OK, I just looked at 36-2903 again, and found this on Page 51 under "Dress Boots (Black)":

Quote:
With rounded plain or rounded capped toe; zipper or elastic
inserts optional; no design; sole will not exceed 1/2 inch in
thickness and shoe heels will not exceed 1 inch in height
(measured from the inside front of the heel). High gloss or
patent finish optional.
Other than that, the AFI lists only low-quarters and combat boots as being authorized. I suppose if you found some all-black, non-pointed toe, low-heeled cowboy boots, you could make that happen. Definitely a gray area, though, and one that will hopefully be addressed if they ever finish the rewrite of that AFI.

I don't really see much of that stuff because I haven't worn blues or seen anyone in them in something like a year now. I do get to put them on this week, though.

If it is really true that people are wearing cowboy boots or wingtips, that's bullshit. But seeing as how weight & hair standards are regularly ignored, I guess it's not surprising.
Yeah you can by the corframs a lot of places... tux shops use them too... corframs aren't issued by the AF. you must purchase them. they only issue the leathers... unless you have special needs, like Honor Guard, or you're fucking the supply chick

Army has been giving out corframs since at least '97, and they have been re-writing the uniform regs like crazy lately. Hell they just gave us back the soft cap

Common sense!

I read a story the other day that the marines filed a lawsuit against teh Army because they started field testing MARPAT designed uniforms. WTF?!?! The marines own the patent on the MARPAT design. this is just stupid because if the design works then why not keep people in an effective designed uniform.

The ACU in my professional opinion is an utter failure. The physical design is mostly good, however the materials used are inferior, and the colors and pattern just plain old suck balls. They fixed a lot of the problems when they started using the multicam pattern, but the materials are still inferior and fall apart under moderate use.

I couldnt find the lawsuit story, but here is one of the earlier ones discussing the fight over the design
